Girl tells police of kidnap try

A 13-year-old girl told police she escaped from a man who attempted to kidnap her yesterday by biting him on his arm.

The girl said she was walking to King Intermediate School in Kane'ohe about 6:50 a.m. when a man in a car pulled alongside her. She told police the man asked her if she needed a ride and that she declined.

She said the man continued to follow her, got out of his car and grabbed her. Police said the girl struggled with the man and bit him on the arm.

The man let go of the girl and she ran to school. The girl was not injured, police said. The man was described only as in his 30s.



Suspect arrested in bank robbery

Police arrested a 42-year-old man Wednesday on suspicion of robbing American Savings Bank's Ala Moana branch on Jan. 30.

The suspect was arrested at O'ahu Community Correctional Center, where he was being held on a criminal offense unrelated to the bank robbery.



Puna man sought in sex-assault case

Big Island police are seeking a 56-year-old Puna man wanted on sexual assault charges as well as a federal arrest warrant revoking his probation.

Police said Milton Hualani Carter III is 5 feet 8, weighs about 150 pounds and has wavy black hair, brown eyes and a tattoo on his right shoulder.

Anyone with information about Carter's whereabouts is asked to call Detective Ann G. Mejia of the Hilo Juvenile Aid Section at 961-8810.

Police seeking burglary suspect

Honolulu police and Navy security investigators are seeking information about a man wanted on a burglary warrant and for questioning about the theft of a .357 magnum revolver from a Pearl City Navy housing residence last Friday.

Officials consider Blaine L. Dupont, 32, to be armed and dangerous. Dupont is known to frequent hotels in the Waikiki and airport areas.

Dupont is also wanted for questioning about a Sept. 20, 2002, burglary at Catlin Park Naval Housing.

Man, 51, charged in barricade case

Police have charged 51-year-old Dennis Nishimura with kidnapping, first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening in connection with Monday's barricade incident at a Kina'u Street apartment in Makiki.

Police said Nishimura entered a woman's apartment through an unlocked back door carrying a large hunting knife. He allegedly threatened to kill the woman and her 82-year-old mother during the nearly three hours he was in the apartment. Police eventually got him to surrender after he had freed the women.



Eight arrested in credit-card fraud

Honolulu police have arrested eight people in connection with an investigation into fraudulent credit-card transactions.

The most recent arrest was a 30-year-old Waipahu woman. She was arrested at HPD's Alapa'i station at 12:30 p.m. Monday on suspicion of fraud and theft.

She was released without charges, pending further investigation for possible indictment at a later date.

The alleged criminal activity involves about a dozen debit-card transactions exceeding $20,000 from February to April 2002, police said.



Two arrested in Kailua chase

A 20-year-old man, wanted for two bail violations, was arrested Wednesday after police said he was caught speeding on the wrong side of Kailua Road toward an oncoming police car.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of two prohibited firearm offenses. He is accused of possessing a plastic flare gun loaded with 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

He was arrested on Ku'ulei Road at 7 p.m. after attempting to run away.

A second man, 18, who was a passenger in the car, also ran away and was chased into the back yard of a nearby residence by a passerby. The suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the man pursuing him but surrendered when police arrived. The weapon turned out to be an air gun. The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
