Fire destroys Kahala home

Fire gutted a two-bedroom Kahala cottage yesterday, leaving a family of three homeless. Five crews responded to the 12:18 p.m. blaze in the 4500 block of Kahala Avenue, and had the fire under control within eight minutes. Fireworks were heard in the area, but were probably not the cause, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Richard Soo.
