Lingle to be at Maui swearing-in

WAILUKU, Maui — Gov. Linda Lingle is expected to attend tomorrow's inauguration of Maui County Mayor-elect Alan Arakawa at Maehara Baseball Stadium in Wailuku.

The event will be from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

Lingle, a Republican, was mayor of Maui County from 1991 to 1998. Arakawa, a County Council member who ran as a Republican before the county switched to nonpartisan elections, beat Mayor James "Kimo" Apana in the November general election.


HONOLULU

McCully/Mo'ili'ili board to meet

Board participation in the Mo'ili'ili Regional Planning Study and Partnership being developed by Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawai'i-Manoa will be discussed at the McCully /Mo'ili'ili Neighborhood Board meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Lunalilo Elementary School cafeteria, 810 Pumehana St.

The board also will discuss its possible participation in any new community advisory committee activities regarding Hawaiian Electric Co.'s Kamoku-Pukele power transmission line project. The board also will try to fill five vacancies.


EAST HONOLULU

Poet to sign books in Kahala

Poet and educator Frances H. Kakugawa will sign copies of his new book "Mosaic Moon: Caregiving Through Poetry," from 8 to 9 a.m. tomorrow and Jan. 7 at Waldenbooks in Kahala Mall.

The book is a resource for caregivers and grew out of a journaling/poetry support group conducted by the Alzheimer's Association Aloha Chapter, Kakugawa said. The book is a collection of poems and a how-to guide to help people create their own poetry support groups.


WINDWARD O'AHU

Kane'ohe library closed Jan. 20

The Kane'ohe Public Library and its bookdrop will be closed Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as work to resurface the facility's lanai and stairs begins.

The library and book drop will reopen for business as usual on Jan. 21. Until the project is completed on Jan. 22, patrons are advised to use extra care in and around the library.
