Man fires shots into hotel room

Detectives were called to the Pacific Marina Inn on Waiwai Loop yesterday after a man with a handgun fired six shots into a guest's room, police said.

The hotel guest told police that a man he did not know knocked on his door at about 4:45 a.m.

The visitor, described as a man in his late 20s, left without saying anything but returned five minutes later, police said. At that point, he fired six rounds from a 9 mm handgun through the door, police said.

The guest was the only person in the room and not injured, according to police, who classified the case as attempted murder.
