Harris taps Holmes for new city post

Advertiser Staff

Mayor Jeremy Harris announced several key appointments today, including a post for a City Council member whose term ended at noon yesterday.

Steve Holmes will now be an executive assistant in the managing director's office, in charge of coordinating the city's energy conservation program and developing of the city's sustainability master plan. "Throughout his 12 years of service on the City Council, Steve Holmes has been a champion of the environment and energy excellence," Harris said in a press release.

Last year Holmes received a national award from the U.S. Department of Energy for incorporating energy efficiency standards into the city building code, which is expected to save the city millions over the next 20 years, Harris added.

The mayor also announced that three members of his administration will be switching posts. Gerry Silva will become deputy director of the customer services department, moving up from special assistant to the director for that department.

Barbara Kim Stanton, head of the city's office of Waikiki Development, will become deputy director of the Department of Planning and Permitting. Joseph M. Magaldi, Jr., will be her replacement. Magaldi currently holds the position Holmes will assume.
