Utility pole work closes traffic lane

Advertiser Staff

Repair work on a utility pole that was severed at its base by an early- morning car crash was expected to keep one of two traffic lanes closed on Kamehameha Highway near the entrance to Kualoa Regional Park until 4 p.m.

Lynne Unemori of Hawaiian Electric Co. said the pole carried a 46-kilovolt transmission line and a 12-kilovolt distribution line, but the damage did not affect service to customers. Oceanic-Time Warner Cable of Hawai'i also reported no disruption of services.

The pole was severed when it was struck by a car at about 4:45 a.m., Unemori said. Police reported no serious injuries.

Traffic was being contra-flowed in the area, police said.
