Hanauma Bay cleanup Jan. 12

The Friends of Hanauma Bay needs volunteers for its quarterly cleanup of the beach, park and part of Kalaniana'ole Highway from 8:30 to 11 a.m. next Sunday.

Garbage bags and gloves will be provided.

Volunteers will meet in the Hanauma Bay upper picnic area adjacent to the new Visitors Center, where they will be provided with work assignments. Residents should bring a photo ID to avoid the beach access fee.

The Friends of Hanauma Bay, a nonprofit organization, helps with the Hanauma Bay Educational Program by providing volunteers to staff the information desk on the beach to answer questions and give free tours.

For more information, call the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve at 396-4229.

Nonprofits can apply for grant

Aloha United Way is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations that want to receive about $350,000 in Emergency Food and Shelter Program money on O'ahu. The deadline to apply is Jan. 16.

Interested voluntary organizations can obtain an application at the Community Building Division of Aloha United Way, 200 N. Vineyard Blvd., Suite 700, or call 543-2206.

Signal cameras to be discussed

Enforcing traffic laws at signaled intersections by using photographs taken of offenders will be discussed at the Kalihi Valley Neighborhood Board meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kalihi Valley District Park on Kamehameha IV Road.
