Donations given to mediators

The Mediation Center of the Pacific has received a $10,000 contribution from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation to support the juvenile restitution mediation program.

The mediation center also received $2,500 from the Hawai'i Hotel Industry Foundation in support of the Paternity Mediation Project and $5,000 from the McInerny Foundation in support of the development of a Case Management Program and $35,000 toward a new Juvenile Conferencing Project.

The center is a not-for-profit agency that provides affordable, accessible mediation, training and dispute resolution services.

Institute to aid in clinical trial

Pacific Health Research Institute, in conjunction with Kuakini Medical Center, will become one of 35 centers in the United States to conduct a Parkinson's disease neuroprotection clinical trial. The center will receive financing through a grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National Institutes of Health.

Parkinson's disease is a chronic progressive neurological disease that destroys a small area of nerve cells in the brain essential to the coordination of smooth and balanced muscle movement.
