One person was killed and seven others injured in three separate motor-vehicle collisions on O'ahu roadways from 3 a.m. yesterday to 4:30 a.m. today.

A 59-year-old man was critically injured today when he was struck by a car at 4:30 a.m. at 100 Kamehameha Highway between Kilani and California avenues in Wahiawa. The man is hospitalized at The Queen's Medical Center.

Police said the man was not in a crosswalk when struck by the car.

Five others, meanwhile, were injured yesterday in a collision involving two cars and two motorcycles on the Joseph P. Leong Highway bypass in Hale'iwa. The 2:15 p.m. collisions occurred when a white Saturn traveling north made a U-turn on the bypass road.

One of two Suzuki motorcycles headed south collided with the Saturn.

The first motorcycle, operated by a 25-year-old man, hit the passenger-side of the Saturn and went airborne. The rider was thrown from the bike and is in critical condition at Queen's.

The second motorcycle struck the rear of the Saturn and sideswiped a Pontiac, which was headed north. A 22-year-old man, who was riding the second motorcycle, is in fair condition at Queen's. A 52-year-old man visiting from Japan, who was driving the Pontiac, refused medical treatment.

Firefighters were called to get three women out of the damaged Saturn. The driver, 56, was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital and later transferred to Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center, where she is listed in fair condition.

A 55-year-old woman passenger is at Queen's, also in fair condition. A third woman was treated at Wahiawa Hospital and released.

Police said the two motorcyclists were wearing safety helmets.

Earlier yesterday, a 24-year-old Kalihi woman died from injuries suffered in a crash on Nimitz Highway near Ahua Street at 3 a.m.

The woman and a man, 23, were in an eastbound 1989 Ford Thunderbird that crossed the center median and struck a concrete pillar. The woman died at Queen's while the man is listed in fair condition.
