Man critical after being hit by car

A 59-year-old man remained in critical condition at The Queen's Medical Center last night after being hit by a car at 4:30 a.m. yesterday at 100 Kamehameha Highway between Kilani and California avenues in Wahiawa.

Police said the man was not in a crosswalk.


Bank robbery suspect charged

A 33-year-old man was charged yesterday in connection with Friday's robbery of Territorial Savings & Loan Association's branch at 1111 McCully St. Apollo Thompson was arrested about three hours after the 10:30 a.m. robbery.

Meanwhile, a second bank robbery suspect was still at large. The man presented a demand note to a teller at American Savings Bank's Kaheka branch at 1600 Kapi'olani Blvd. at 3:40 p.m. and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.


Suspect bolts from courthouse

A man charged with seven holdups that occurred between Thanksgiving Day and Dec. 28 escaped from District Court in downtown Honolulu yesterday, but was later captured.

Jay Young Kwon, who was at a preliminary hearing in connection with three armed robberies of massage businesses, got out of his body cuffs about 11:30 a.m. and ran from the courthouse at the corner of Alakea and Hotel streets, state sheriffs said.

Kwon was found shortly after by state deputy sheriffs about a mile away, near the corner of Nu'uanu and Kuakini streets, authorities said.

Kwon was arrested Dec. 29 at a Pearl City residence.
