Agriculture stars in televised class

Never enough cookbooks, they say. And each semester, Jack Fujii's "Focus on Agriculture" class at the University of Hawai'i-Hilo produces yet another recipe collection.
For his televised course, Ag 194Y in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management, Fujii invites chefs and other employees from restaurants statewide to demonstrate the preparation of various dishes using locally produced agricultural products everything from lamb to starfruit. The result is a mixture of ethnic recipes that range from novice level to more complex.
Cost is $15 outside of Hilo, $12 for those who are able to pick it up at UH-Hilo. To receive an order form, call (808) 974-7393, fax (808) 974-7674. Also available are collections from previous semesters.
BOCA contest worth $100,000
Your original essay could win you $100,000 in the "BOCA Go Meatless" contest, sponsored by the makers of meatless, soy-based food products. The idea is to describe a life change you want to make and tell how BOCA could help you achieve that goal: hire a personal chef for a year? build a home gym? bring in a personal massage therapist? In addition to the cash, the first-prize winner gets a one-year supply of BOCA products. One hundred runners-up will also receive a one-year supply of BOCA products.
View the rules and enter online at www.bocaburger.com (click on BOCA Go Meatless icon); online entries are accepted through April 28. Or enter by mail: Send essay to BOCA Go Meatless, P.O. Box 4975, Blair, NE 68009-4975. Mailed entries must be received by May 8. Entries will be judged on appropriateness to theme (50 percent), creativity/originality (40 percent) and clarity of expression (10 percent).
