American Savings branch hit again

A man robbed the American Savings Bank Kapi'olani Kaheka Branch yesterday, making it the second time since Friday that the same branch was held up.

The robber entered the branch at 1600 Kapi'olani Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. He passed a note stating that he was armed, took the money, and ran along Kaheka Street in the mauka direction.

The suspect is described as in his 30s, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, 140 to 160 pounds with a thin build. He had salt and pepper, neck-length hair, brown eyes, fair complexion and was clean shaven. He wore an aloha floral print blue shirt with light colored pants, and was carrying a faded blue fanny pack and white plastic grocery bag.

The branch was robbed Friday by another man, police said.

Car, bike victims remain critical

A motorist involved in a Pearl City crash early yesterday and a bicyclist struck by a car Monday night near the Pali Golf Course entrance both remained in critical condition last night at The Queen's Medical Center.

Speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the Pearl City crash on Waimano Home Road, according to police. A 24-year-old woman driving a 1990 Lexus veered off the roadway and was ejected when the vehicle hit a rock wall. The woman was not wearing a seat belt, investigators said.

A 32-year-old man, meanwhile, was critically injured while riding his bicycle on Kamehameha Highway at 7:30 Monday night.

Nimitz crash victim was woman, 24

The 24-year-old woman killed in a Sunday traffic accident on Nimitz Highway has been identified as Venus Kaeha of Honolulu.

Kaeha and a man, 23, were in an eastbound 1989 Ford Thunderbird that crossed the center median and struck a concrete pillar. She died at The Queen's Medical Center. The man is listed in fair condition.

'Aina Haina robbery under investigation

Police are investigating a reported robbery and kidnapping yesterday in which two men broke into an 'Aina Haina residence and tied up a 55-year-old homeowner.

The victim was sleeping in his bedroom when two men entered the room around 3 a.m., he told police. The men demanded money from him and tied his wrist and ankles, and later struck him in the face, police said.

The men then burglarized the residence and drove off in two vehicles parked in the man's garage.

Both men were described as between 25 to 30 years old and about 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10.

Some of stolen money recovered

Police have recovered $709 of the $1,217 stolen in a robbery Friday at Territorial Savings & Loan Association's McCully branch.

Apollo Leemont Thompson, 33, was charged Monday in the robbery. He was arrested at a Pawa'a-area hotel about three hours after the 10:45 a.m. robbery. The money was found in a backpack, police said.
