Chaminade prevails, 102-87

Byron Sykes scored 26 points and Leon Ballard added 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Chaminade to a 102-87 victory over Western New Mexico in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game last night at McCabe gym.

Roy Stigall added 19 points, Jaborri Thomas contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Donald Rogers chipped in 10 points for the Silverswords, who shot 55.6 percent (40-for-72) from the field.

Chaminade, which surged to a 58-36 lead at the half, improved to 7-7 overall and 2-0 in the PacWest.

Joey Ramirez scored 20 points and David Walker 18 for Western New Mexico (2-7, 0-1).

• HPU wins ninth in row: Aaron Abrams scored 19 points and Nic Walters added 14 points and nine rebounds as Hawai'i Pacific beat Drew University, 66-42, in a non-conference men's basketball game last night at Blaisdell Arena.

The Sea Warriors won their ninth in a row to improve to 11-1. They open Pacific West Conference play Friday against host Brigham Young-Hawai'i at 7:30 p.m.

Mike Machin had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Drew, which is located in New Jersey.
