Movie Openings

"Children of the Century": A French drama based on the love affair between authors George Sand (Juliette Binoche) and Alfred de Musset (Beno”t Magimel) in the 1830s. Opens tomorrow at The Art House at Restaurant Row. (Not rated.)

"His Secret Life": A French/Italian drama that begins with a twist: When a 10-year marriage ends with the death of the husband in a car crash, the wife discovers her husband had a male lover — and they become friends. Opens tomorrow at The Art House at Restaurant Row. (Not rated).

"The Pianist": Roman Polanski's film is based on the experiences of Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Polish Jewish pianist who survives the Holocaust by hiding out in the city, in an increasingly desperate struggle. Opens tomorrow at Dole Cannery 18 Theatres and Varsity Twin. (R).

"Adaptation": A bewildering, entertaining movie about orchid thieves and screenwriters, elegant New Yorkers and scruffy swamp rats, truth and fiction. Opens tomorrow at Ward Stadium 16-Plex. (R).

"Antwone Fisher": A good young sailor has a hair-trigger temper, and it lands him in the office of the base psychiatrist. Newcomer Derek Luke plays the sailor, in a powerful debut performance, and Denzel Washington, who plays the doctor, is making his directorial debut.
