The University of Hawai'i Foundation will award a $3,000 stipend annually beginning this summer for a student to work as a legislative intern for one of the state's congressmen or senators.

The fellowship will be formally announced March 13 following a lecture by Stanford Law School professor John Trasvina on the legacy of the late U.S. Rep. Mink, who had served Hawai'i in the House for 24 years and died of viral pneumonia Sept. 28.

Trasvina will discuss the recently passed Homeland Security Act and its effects on the civil rights of Americans and immigrants.
