Mink legislative fellowship to sponsor intern

A Patsy Mink Legislative Fellowship is being created to send one student from the University of Hawai'iiManoa William S. Richardson School of Law to intern in Washington, D.C.

The University of Hawai'i Foundation will award a $3,000 stipend annually beginning this summer for a student to work as a legislative intern for one of the state's congressmen or senators.
U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink died of viral pneumonia Sept. 28.
The fellowship will be formally announced March 13 following a lecture by Stanford Law School professor John Trasvina on the legacy of the late U.S. Rep. Mink, who had served Hawai'i in the House for 24 years and died of viral pneumonia Sept. 28.
Trasvina will discuss the recently passed Homeland Security Act and its effects on the civil rights of Americans and immigrants.
