Recycling sites for trees open tomorrow

Christmas tree recycling sites will be open on O'ahu from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow.

Trees should be without tinsel and other ornaments. They will be mulched for use in parks and other sites.

Trees will be accepted at:

• Kailua Intermediate School.
• Kaiser High School.
• Kane'ohe District Park
• Kapalama Elementary School.
• Kapolei Elementary School.
• Mililani Maka'unulau Park.
• Waimea Falls Park.
• Waiau District Park.
• The Polynesian Cultural Center.
• University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Richardson Law School.
• The Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.
• Kapi'olani Community College.

Christmas tree recycling programs are already under way on the Neighbor Islands.

On the Big Island, residents should take their trees to county rubbish transfer stations.

On Kaua'i, trees can be dropped off at Kaua'i Nursery and Landscaping outside Puhi, until Jan. 31. After hours, trees can be left at the entrance gate at 3-1550 Kaumuali'i Highway or any county rubbish transfer station.

On Maui, trees can be dropped off at Maui Earth Compost Co. on Hansen Road and Oma'opio Road from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, except Sunday; EKO Composting at the Central Landfill on Oma'opio Road, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily; Campaign Recycle Maui on Waiko Road in Waikapu, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Sunday; and the Olowalu Recycling Center, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.

Kihei residents may leave their trees at the Maui Earth Compost Co. site behind the Kihei wastewater treatment plant. Trees should not be left at Kalama Park.
