Military-civilian cleanup today
A joint military and civilian task force in Wai'anae will launch its 2003 beach cleanup campaign from 8 a.m. to noon today at Poka'i Bay. Volunteers will be issued bags and gloves and, as a way of saying thanks, will be served lunch.
The yearlong cleanup project was organized by the Army and the Wai'anae Coast Neighborhood Board Parks and Recreation Committee. The task force will clean up one Wai'anae Coast beach on a designated Friday each month.

Likelike lanes closed for work
The Honolulu-bound lanes of Likelike Highway will be closed this weekend for tunnel cleaning and maintenance work.
The state Department of Transportation advises motorists to use an alternative route between 7 p.m. tomorrow and 7 a.m. Sunday.
Likelike Highway will be closed from Kahekili Highway in Kane'ohe to Valley View Drive in Kalihi.
The H-3 onramp in Kane'ohe will be open.
Councilwoman to hold forums
Windward O'ahu residents can meet with City Councilwoman Barbara Marshall and her staff to discuss issues related to city government and services at any of three public forums beginning Jan. 28.
Marshall represents District 3 (Kailua, Kane'ohe and Waimanalo).
The meetings will be held:
Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Kailua District Park Multi-Purpose Room.
Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Waimanalo Library.
March 18 at 7 p.m. at Windward Community College, Akoakoa, Room 101.

Rotary solicits award nominees
The Rotary Club of Windward O'ahu wants to recognize an outstanding Windward volunteer and is seeking nominees from the community.
The "Service Above Self" nominee must live, work or volunteer in Windward and cannot be a Rotarian.
To nominate someone, explain in a letter why that person should receive the award.

Kane'ohe Bay water workshop
Developing a plan to measure pollutant levels in Kane'ohe Bay will be part of a Kailua Bay Advisory Council workshop from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 25 at the YWCA Camp Kokokahi's Makai Room.
The Ko'olaupoko Watershed Community Workshop includes a presentation by David Penn, with the state Department of Health, giving an overview of the state's water quality goals.
