Honolulu police and Missing Child Center-Hawai'i are asking for the public's help in locating a 9-year-old Wahiawa boy missing since Christmas evening.

Daniel Gilman is believed to be with his maternal grandfather,

Derick Gilman, who has no legal custody of Daniel. Police have classified the boy's disappearance as a custodial interference case.

The two had left a Wahiawa family party Christmas evening and were last seen Tuesday afternoon in the Pearlridge area riding a city bus. Police said the boy and grandfather also were spotted in Wahiawa Dec. 28 catching a bus, and possibly in Kane'ohe.

Derick Gilman, 49, has outstanding warrants for contempt of court and attempted theft, police said.

Detective Letha DeCaires of HPD's CrimeStoppers program said the third-grader was at a Christmas party at a relative's home on Olive Avenue when the grandfather dropped by.

"It wasn't like he wasn't allowed to visit the boy, but the child isn't supposed to be with him for this long a period," DeCaires said. "We're concerned about the child's safety because he hasn't been seen since, hasn't shown up for school, and we're not sure if the grandfather has a regular address."

DeCaires said the boy's grandmother has custody of the child.

Daniel Gilman is 4 feet 10, 125 pounds, with a husky build. He has short, dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Derick Gilman, who also goes by Erick Kanamu and George H. Wright, is 5 feet 10 and 160 pounds, with a medium build. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and a mustache.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Erik Iinuma at 529-3099 or Missing Child Center-Hawaii at 753-9797. Anonymous calls may be made to CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellular phone.
