Top QBs scheduled for all-star game

Some of the nation's top quarterbacks, and one with local ties, will be playing in the 2003 Hula Bowl Maui on Feb. 1.

Iowa quarterback Brad Banks, the runner-up in the Heisman voting, is on the 'Aina team, which will be coached by Miami's Larry Coker.

Ken Dorsey, who guided the Hurricanes to the national championship game against Ohio State, is also on the 'Aina team, as is Byron Leftwich of Marshal1.

Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech's record-setting quarterback, is on the Kai team, which will be coached by Mack Brown of Texas.

Neil Rose, a 1998 graduate of University High who played for Pac-Five, and quarterbacked Harvard, is also on the Kai team. Rose, from Mililani, holds 14 school records at Harvard.

University of Hawai'i players par in the game include Chris Brown (linebacker), Sean Butts (cornerback), La'anui Correa (safety), Mat McBriar (punter) and Pisa Tinoisamoa (linebacker), who are on the Kai team. Justin Colbert (receiver), Lui Fuata (offensive lineman) and Vince Manuwai (offensive lineman) are on the 'Aina team.

Others from Hawai'i include defensive lineman Lauvale Sape (Leilehua, University of Utah) and running back Joe Igber (Iolani, University of California).
