Advertiser Staff

A 9-year-old boy reported missing on Dec. 28 when his grandfather failed to return him to his grandmother as previously agreed was found yesterday in Pearl City thanks to a tip from a city bus operator.

Daniel Gilman was unharmed, police said. He was with his grandfather, 49-year-old Derick Gilman, at 2305 Kamehameha Highway. when he was found at 2:05 p.m.

The elder Gilman was arrested on three outstanding warrants. He is also being investigated for first-degree custodial interference.

Detective Letha DeCaires, Honolulu police CrimeStoppers coordinator, said city bus operators are given suspect bulletin information during their pre-shift briefings. "Bus operators are one of our best sources," DeCaires said.
