THE LEFT LANE
Kissable Honolulu

Advertiser Staff and News Services

The ever-trendy world of customized makeup coloring was taken to another level when one New York company developed a unique lip-gloss shade — not for a person, but a city. Honolulu, that is.

Trae Bodge, Scott Catto and Chad Hayduk of Three Custom Color Specialists created Pink Lady, a vibrant sheer pink gloss of gold shimmer, exclusively for McQuaid's Fine Living in Honolulu as a result of exotic inspiration from their travels. The gloss is available for $18.50 at the store's Kalakaua Avenue and Ward Warehouse locations. For details, phone 979-2700 or 589-1900.

Interfaith site up

A local bulletin board that encourages dialogue between people of different religions is up and running.

The Believers All Network site can be accessed at www.beyondveilandholywar.com, founded by Saleem Ahmed, the Honolulu-based author of a book comparing Islamic and Christian practices, "Beyond Veil and Holy War."

Ahmed says it's a way for believers to find similarities between their faiths.

"Regardless of who might be our respective messenger, the message has always been the same: Believe in one God, lead a righteous life and treat all humans equally," Ahmed said.

Starting in February, members of the network will gather in person the last Tuesday of the month, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Harris United Methodist.

Tall, dark and stylish

A new book is meant to help women bring out the fashionable best in the men they love.

"Make Over Your Man: The Woman's Guide to Dressing Any Man in Her Life" (Broadway Books, $29.95) by Lloyd Boston covers everything from suits to shoes.

Boston, a style correspondent for NBC's "Today" show, laments many men's willingness to treat style as an afterthought.

And, yes, he does tackle the tricky psychological issue of just how a woman can go about tactfully proposing a makeover — including how to talk him into throwing away his high-school sneakers and college sweatshirt.
