Cause of Kona home fire probed
Firefighters are investigating the cause of a blaze that leveled a two-story home in an isolated area of Kona.
Captain Cook firefighters reported the top floor of the two-story house at the top of Bruner Road had already collapsed by the time they arrived on the scene at about 6:30 p.m. yesterday.
The area is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles, and volunteer and county firefighters shuttled water from a staging area more than a mile away from the fire to wet down the brush surrounding the home to prevent a brush fire.
The home was owned by Arnie Rabin, and damage to the structure was estimated at $250,000. Damage to the contents was estimated at $40,000, firefighters said.
