NOTEBOOK
Roosevelt pitcher a winner in Arizona

By Stacy Kaneshiro
Advertiser Staff Writer

Roosevelt senior pitcher/outfielder Cameron Kimura, an O'ahu Interscholastic Association second-team all-star last year, was the winning pitcher in the championship of the CF Swingtown Baseball Tournament held Dec. 28-30 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Kimura was one of seven Hawai'i players among 270 nationwide invited to the tournament.

The Hawai'i players were on different teams, but Kimura was the only one to play on American Purple, which went 4-0 in its 16-team pool before winning the championship to finish the competition at 5-0 overall.

"It was freezing," Kimura said. "It was 38 degrees."

Kimura said he played in a similar showcase during the summer and that is how he probably got invited to the winter tournament.
