HPU victory ends nation's longest home win streak

Led by Aaron Abrams' career-high 28 points, the Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball team defeated Montana State University-Billings, 72-71, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference game in Billings, Mont., and snapped the nation's longest home winning streak at 38 games.
The Sea Warriors improved to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in the PacWest. The Yellowjackets fell to 6-6 and 0-4.
Abrams made 9-of-21 shots from the field and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.ÊMarvin Noble added 17 points and six assists, and Leandro Maruoka had 12 points.
The Yellowjackets led by as many as 10 in the first half behind 9-of-22 shooting from 3-point range. Abrams scored the final five points of the first half as Hawai'i Pacific cut the lead to 42-39 at halftime.
In the second half, the Yellowjackets led 71-66 with 2:14 remaining, but the Sea Warriors went on a 6-0 run to end the game. During the spurt, Abrams made four free throws and Maruoka scored one basket.
The Yellowjackets last home loss was to Michigan Tech on Dec. 15, 2000.ÊMontana State-Billings' last home conference loss was to Hawai'i Pacific on Feb. 6, 1999.
Chaminade 78, Hawai'i-Hilo 72. Mike Donegan led four Silverswords in double figures as visiting Chaminade defeated Hawai'i-Hilo in a Pacific West Conference game last night at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
Donegan scored 18, Roy Stigall III 17, Byron Skykes 14, and Leon Ballard 12 as Chaminade (9-7, 4-0) remained undefeated in conference play.
The Vulcans, led by Osadonor Esene's 27 points and Ryan Abrahams' 20, fell to 11-5, 3-1.
BYUH 103, Western New Mexico 62: Alexus Foyle scored a game-high 35 points in 27 minutes and Scott Salisbury added 12 points as Brigham Young-Hawai'i defeated Western New Mexico in a Pacific West Conference game in Silver City, N.M., yesterday.
The Seasiders are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Mustangs are 2-10 and 0-4.
The Seasiders led 44-29 at halftime and shot 71.4 percent (40-of-56) for the game. Foyle, the reigning conference player of the year, made 16-of-20 shots.
