Reporting at Wo

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Denby Fawcett
Denby Fawcett and Tad Bartimus, two of eight reporters who contributed chapters to "War Torn: Stories of War from the Women Reporters Who Covered Vietnam," will give a free reading from the book at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Wo International Center-Luke Lecture Hall on the Punahou campus.

Fawcett, a political reporter for KITV-4 News, was the chief Vietnam reporter for The Honolulu Advertiser from 1966 to 1967. Bartimus, who writes the nationally syndicated "Among Friends" column, was an Associated Press correspondent in Vietnam from 1973 to 1974.

Sister's baaack

Patricia Clarkson
Patricia Clarkson, who nabbed an Emmy last year for her guest stint on "Six Feet Under" as the free-spirited sister of series regular Frances Conroy, will reprise her role as Aunt Sarah in at least one episode of the HBO hit launching its third season on March 2.

Racing for readers

Meet the new mag. Same as the old mag? Athletes HI, edited by former Hawai'i Pacific University cross-country star Christian Friis, made its debut this month featuring training advice from prominent Hawai'i-based runners, swimmers, bikers and triathletes, as well as a calendar of local events and entries to races.

Sounds a lot like Hawai'i Race, started by Mindy Jaffe. In fact, Friis started the new magazine when it appeared that Hawai'i Race was going to fold. However, the magazine has a new publisher and will continue to operate. The competition between the glossy Hawai'i Race and the low-fuss Athletes HI should be interesting. Jaffe appears in this month's Athletes HI with a piece on Gov. Linda Lingle's contributions to the racing community.
