TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"American Idol" (7 p.m.) and "American Idol Revisited" (8:30 p.m.), both Fox. At a time when youthful "reality" shows are hot, here's the one that helped start the surge. "Idol" caught attention last summer because of the comments — wise, witty, acerbic and sometimes just nasty — of Simon Cowell, the judge who also did the original version in England. But it was just an early gimmick. Viewers soon found that the young competitors, ages 16 to 24, were a likable and talented bunch and discovered that the judges — Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul — knew their stuff. The second edition begins with a few changes: There's one host, Ryan Seacrest, instead of two. A fourth judge was hired but she soon quit. The other change is to make a slightly bigger deal out of the first week. The show expands to 90 minutes tonight, followed by a special that catches us up on last summer's finalists. Another 90-minute version airs Wednesday.

OF NOTE

"InStyle Celebrity Weddings," 7 p.m., NBC. Here's a look at the wedding that linked two cute pop stars, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. We also see the weddings of Shannon Elizabeth, Marc Anthony and more.

"8 Simple Rules," 7 p.m., ABC. Bridget must go to a party with Kerry, who's upset about a breakup.

"According to Jim," 7:30 p.m., ABC. Jim Belushi teams with two people who worked with his late brother, John, during the glory days of "Saturday Night Live." Dan Aykroyd returns to his role as a cop who is Jim's best friend.

"Frasier," 8 p.m., NBC. Here's a rerun of the season opener, which started with Niles and Daphne getting married repeatedly. It's pretty amusing.

"Judging Amy," 9 p.m., CBS. Amy's personal problems reach a turning point as she battles her ex-husband for custody of their daughter.
