Sex offender sentenced in Internet case

Advertiser Staff

A Hawai'i man has been sentenced to 6 1/2 years in federal prison for using the Internet to lure a 13-year-old Kaua'i girl into having sex with him.

In addition, U.S. District Judge Susan Mollway ordered Michael S. Cabrera, 34, to pay $642 in restitution to the girl.

The sentence also includes three years' supervised release under conditions similar to probation once he is released from prison.

Cabrera also will be required to undergo treatment as a sex offender and register as a sex offender wherever he lives upon release from prison.

Kaua'i police officers recovered the video camera and tapes that Cabrera used to record himself having sex with the girl at a Kaua'i hotel on May 15 and 16, 2002.
