Attorney WALTER G. CHUCK died Jan. 18 in Honolulu after suffering complications from lung cancer. He was 82. See story.

Prominent Filipino community leader, civil servant and journalist ZACHARY G. LABEZ will be remembered during "a day with Zack" memorial program Saturday. Labez, senior community services planner with the Office of Community Services in the state Department of Labor, died Jan. 12 of a massive stroke. He was 53. See story.

JAMES KEIZO FUJIKAWA, Japanese scholar and cultural leader who was honored in 2000 as a living treasure of Hawai'i, died Jan. 14 in Honolulu at the age of 95. See story.

One of the pioneers of Japanese language radio and television in Hawai'i, MICHIE NAKABAYASHI, died Jan. 10 at age 76. See story.

STEPHEN RAY ADAMS, 53, of Kapa'a, Kaua'i, formerly of Ridgecrest, Calif., died Jan. 17, 2003. Born in Pomona, Calif. Self-employed carpenter and craftsman. Survived by wife, Jana "Chicki"; sons, Will Hunt, Eddie and Jesse; daughters, Kara Hunt, Olivia Whisnant and Guinivere Comacho; mother, Eva McDonald; brothers, Dale Adams and David McDonald; sisters, Joyce Collins, Julia Adams and Alta Schaufelberger; nine grandchildren. SABINA RAMONES ASUNCION, 84, of Mililani, died Jan. 10, 2003. Born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. ROBERT ALEXANDER NOLTIE BRUCE, 93, of Waimea, Hawai'i, died Jan. 18, 2003. Born in Marnock, Scotland. Retired manager for the former Laupahoehoe Sugar Company.
