Help with stolen car leads to arrest

Police arrested a 27-year-old woman Wednesday in Ala Moana after she asked a police officer to help her unlock a stolen car she had been driving.

The woman flagged down an officer along Hobron Lane about noon and told him she had locked herself out of her car, police said. The officer became suspicious after the woman gave inconsistent information about the vehicle.

While two male acquaintances of the woman tried to open the car door with a tool, the officer checked its license plate and found it didn’t match the vehicle, police said. The woman confessed that she had been driving a stolen vehicle and was arrested.

The woman could face charges of fourth-degree theft, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and fraudulent use of a license plate. The men, ages 31 and 48, were arrested for attempted unauthorized entry into a motorized vehicle.
