Early registration for 2003 Maui Marathon available

It isn't too early to start thinking about the 2003 Maui Marathon.

The 33rd edition of the 26.2-mile race will be on Sept. 21 this year.

For those who register before May 31, the cost will be $60. Valley Isle Road Runner members can register before May 31 at a cost of $35.

If entries are still available after June 1, the fee per person in each category will be $75.

Participants can get an entry form by calling (808) 871-6441, by faxing, (808) 244-7735, by e-mail, bark@maui.net or by visiting the race's Web site at www.mauimarathon.com.

• Camp offered: The Sierra Club High School Hikers' Program will offer an ecology camp at Camp Kokokahi from Feb. 15-17.

The registration deadline for the camp is Jan. 31.

The camp will feature hiking, service projects and workshops in environmental education.

School groups or clubs that are interested in participating, can contact Bob Keane at keaner001@hawaii.rr.com.

Donations are also sought for camp scholarships, which will go to qualifying students.
