Hobron hotel work to start tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

Demolition of low-rise residential buildings around the Ohana Hobron Hotel will begin today in preparation for converting the hotel tower's 600 rooms into 184 fee-simple condominium units for sale to seniors.

Oaktree Capital Management LLC, which bought the hotel at 343 Hobron Lane and surrounding property in December 2001, plans to have model units ready next month and reopen the property in the fall.

The last day of hotel operations will be Friday. Operating the condo with a variety of services and amenities such as housekeeping and recreation for seniors at least 55 years of age will be The Fountains, an Arizona-based senior housing operator with about 20 communities in 12 states.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story erroneously reported that demolition of the low-rise buildings around the Ohana Hobron would begin tomorrow. The work will begin today.
