Saint Louis' Afoa to play for Washington

Advertiser Staff

The state's high school Defensive Player of the Year will attend the University of Washington on a football scholarship in the fall.

Wilson Afoa, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive lineman from Saint Louis School, announced his decision today.

"It was a real tough choice," Afoa said. "I liked their facilities and their school."

Last season, Afoa made 51 tackles, including 19 for negative yards. He also produced 44 hurries, 6 1/2 sacks, three pass deflections and a forced fumble.

Afoa also strongly considered offers from Hawai'i and Washington State.

Afoa has a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average. He said he is interested in majoring in engineering.
