Man arrested after argument

A 56-year-old man was arrested by police yesterday on 'A'ala Street near Beretania Community Park on suspicion of hitting another man on the head with a hammer during a workplace argument earlier this month.

According to police, the two men had to be separated by a co-worker on Jan. 2 at a construction work site in 'Aina Haina when an argument involving work escalated into a physical confrontation. Witnesses told police the men had gone back to working when the suspect allegedly attacked the victim, 51, with a hammer before fleeing the scene.

The injured man is in guarded condition at The Queen's Medical Center with a fractured skull.


Another O'ahu bank robbed

First Hawaiian Bank's Kalihi branch at 2250 N. King St. was robbed at 12:30 p.m. yesterday by a man who presented a note to a teller. The robber fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in a car driven by another man.

The bank robbery was the fifth of the year on O'ahu. Police have thus far charged suspects for two of the January robberies.


Suspect sought in stabbing

A 46-year-old man who was stabbed several times in the abdomen early yesterday morning in Waikiki was in guarded condition today at The Queen's Medical Center.

His assailant, a 55-year-old man whose identity is known to police, remains at large.

The stabbing victim told police he was in the passenger seat of a car parked on Ka'iulani Avenue near Tusitala Street at 2:40 a.m. A woman, who is the ex-girlfriend of the suspect, was also in the car.

The suspect allegedly confronted the victim and hit him in the head. The man was stabbed after he got out of the car. He was found lying on the sidewalk by police who responded to the scene.


Infant-death case closed

Honolulu police are not pursuing a criminal investigation into the death of a 3-day-old boy, according homicide Lt. Bill Kato. The infant, who was born prematurely, was taken off life support Monday.

Police were investigating whether drug use by the mother contributed to the infant's death but dropped the case based on information received yesterday from the medical examiner's office, Kato said.
