Islanders' schedule finalized, tryouts set

The Hawaiian Islanders of arenafootball2 will open their second season March 30 against the expansion Green Bay Blizzard at Blaisdell Arena.
The 16-game schedule, which runs through July 27, will include bye weeks in mid-April and early July.
The eight home games will start at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 6 p.m. on Sundays at Blaisdell Arena.
The Islanders finished 5-12 in 2002 under coaches Guy Benjamin and Chad Carlson.
Former Saint Louis School football coach Cal Lee will lead the Islanders this season.
Season ticket packages range from $40 to $80.
• Tryouts set: The Islanders will hold a non-contact tryout Feb. 9 at Saint Louis School for individuals who didn't play for the team last season.
Registration is set for 9 a.m. and the tryout at 10.
Each participant will be tested in the 40-yard dash, four-corner agility, T-shuttle run, vertical jump and bench press of 225 pounds. One-on-one and group drills will also be held.
Participants should wear shorts or sweat pants, T-shirt and non-marking basketball or running shoes. Individuals must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.
The fee is $25. Only cash and money orders will be accepted.

VOLLEYBALL
• Women's volleyball banquet: The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team will hold its annual banquet Sunday at the Hale Koa Hotel.
KFVE commentator Chris McLachlin will emcee the event with KFVE partner Jim Leahey and Honolulu Advertiser columnist Lee Cataluna scheduled as guest speakers.
The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner to follow at 6:30. Tickets are $35.
The Rainbow Wahine finished the 2002 season 34-2 overall, advancing to the NCAA final four before falling to Stanford in the semifinals.

BASKETBALL
• BYUH's Foyle honored: Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's basketball player Alexus Foyle was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Foyle, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, earned the honor this past week with a 24-point, 13-rebound performance in leading the Seasiders to an 84-76 victory over Hawai'i Pacific.
Nine of Foyle's rebounds were on the offensive end. He also recorded five assists and scored 20 points in the second half to help BYUH erase a five-point halftime deficit.
NFL
• Bucs linebacker at Macy's Saturday: Derrick Brooks, linebacker for the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will sign autographs Saturday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Macy's Ala Moana men's department.
Brooks was named the 2002 NFL defensive player of the year by The Associated Press.
