Police turn over custody of man

Big Island police today turned over custody of a 30-year-old Hilo man arrested Tuesday in a narcotics/vice raid to Drug Enforcement Administration agents for federal prosecution.

The man was arrested with three others in the parking lot at Puhi Bay. Narcotics/vice officers seized three handguns, $9,000 cash, 87.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 19.7 grams of marijuana and a small amount of crack cocaine from two vehicles.

Two women, ages 43 and 20, and a man, 27, who were also arrested Tuesday have been released pending further investigation for possible federal indictment at a later date, police said.

On Monday, narcotics/vice officers raided a Hilo home at 949 Kupulau Road and seized 3.5 grams of powder and crack cocaine, a handgun and $1,174 cash. Two men, ages 29 and 24, and a 21-year-old woman arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug offenses may also face federal prosecution at a later date, police said.

The total street value of the drugs seized in the two raids is estimated at $13,000, police said.

"We are continuing efforts to investigate, identify, arrest and prosecute suspects involved in trafficking dangerous drugs," Big Island Police Chief Lawrence K. Mahuna said. "And wherever possible, we will seek federal prosecution of major distributors."

Boy arrested in Mililani stabbing

A 17-year-old boy was arrested last night on suspicion of stabbing another boy during a fight in the parking lot of the Jack In The Box restaurant at Mililani Shopping Center.

The boy surrendered at the Wahiawa police station at 10:50 p.m., two hours after the stabbing occurred, and was arrested in the attempted murder investigation. The injured youth, also 17, is in guarded condition at The Queen's Medical Center.

The two youths were with separate groups. Taunting from one of the groups led to the fight, police said.

Honolulu police are seeking to charge a 62-year-old karate instructor with raping a 13-year-old female student at his Wai'anae residence.

The attacks are alleged to have occurred from Dec. 11, 2002, through last Wednesday and were recently reported to police by the girl. The pending charges include two counts of first-degree sex assault and four counts of third-degree sex assault.

In a separate case, police are investigating a sexual-assault complaint filed by a 13-year-old girl against the 26-year-old boyfriend of her sister. The man may have also molested the victim's 10-year-old sister, police said.
