Teen stabbed during argument

A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized in guarded condition last night after he was stabbed at least once during an argument in Mililani.

Police said the boy was arguing with another male shortly before 9 p.m. in the parking lot of the Jack In The Box restaurant on Kipapa Drive. The argument escalated, and the boy was stabbed in the upper abdomen, police said.

The victim, identified only as a Leilehua High School student, was flown by medevac helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center. Hospital officials would not release the boy's condition last night.

Police said the suspect fled on foot from the scene of the stabbing. Police late last night were searching the Wheeler Army Air Field housing area and Mililani.


First Hawaiian branch robbed

First Hawaiian Bank's Kalihi branch at 2250 N. King St. was robbed at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday by a man who handed a note to a teller. The robber left with an undisclosed amount of cash in a car driven by another man.

The bank robbery was the fifth this year on O'ahu. Police have charged suspects for two of the January robberies.


Hawai'i Belt Road open after crash

PAPA'IKOU, Hawai'i — Big Island police yesterday reopened Hawai'i Belt Road to normal traffic after it was shut down for nearly an hour because a tanker truck struck the Papa'ikou Highway overpass and overturned.

The 2 p.m. accident near Kalaniana'ole School, forced traffic to divert around the town.


Man allegedly hit with hammer

A 56-year-old man was arrested by police Tuesday on 'A'ala Street near Beretania Community Park on suspicion of hitting another man on the head with a hammer during a workplace argument earlier this month.

According to police, the two men had to be separated by a coworker on Jan. 2 at a construction work site in 'Aina Haina when an argument involving work escalated into a confrontation. Witnesses told police the construction crew had gone back to work when the suspect attacked the victim, 51, with a hammer before fleeing the scene.

The injured man remained in guarded condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center with a fractured skull.


Man stabbed in Waikiki Tuesday

A 46-year-old man was in guarded condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center after being stabbed several times early Tuesday in Waikiki.

The victim said he was in the passenger seat of a car parked on Ka'iulani Avenue at 2:40 a.m. The ex-girlfriend of the suspect, was also in the car. The suspect allegedly confronted the victim and hit him in the head. The man was stabbed after he got out of the car.


Baby death won't be investigated

Honolulu police have decided to not pursue a criminal investigation into the death of a 3-day-old boy, according homicide Lt. Bill Kato. The infant, who was born prematurely, was taken off life support Monday.

Police were investigating whether drug use by the mother contributed to the baby's death but dropped the case based on information received yesterday from the medical examiner's office, Kato said.
