Man arrested in assaults on trio

A 42-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attacking three women at Tracks Beach near Kahe Point.

While investigating a June 4 assault complaint filed by the man's 57-year-old girlfriend, police linked the man to two assault cases dating back to July and September 2002.

In the most recent case, the man allegedly threw a "football-size rock" at his girlfriend during an argument. The woman has four fractured bones in her lower back after being struck with the rock, police said.

Last July 3, the man allegedly punched a woman, 57, in the jaw at his camp site at Tracks. On Sept. 21, 2002, a 39-year-old woman needed 37 stitches to close a head wound suffered when the man allegedly struck her with a flashlight, police said.

The man surrendered to police at the Kapolei station yesterday at 10 a.m.

Swimmer who died identified

The medical examiner's office today identified the 66-year-old man who died yesterday after being pulled from the water at Ala Moana Beach Park as Daniel C.K. Lum.

Lum was found face down in the water at 9:40 a.m.

Heart attack preceded crash

A Kane'ohe woman suffered a heart attack before crashing her car into a guardrail June 26 on Likelike Highway near the Burmeister overpass, authorities said.

Clarice S. Yamamoto, 71, died later at The Queen's Medical Center.
