BUSINESS BRIEFS
Maui bureau has new director

Advertiser Staff

Terryl Vencl yesterday was named executive director of the Maui Visitors Bureau, replacing Marsha Wienert, who left last month to join Gov. Linda Lingle's Cabinet as the state's first tourism liaison.

Vencl has been the executive director of the Maui Hotel Association for 11 years and has served as chairwoman of the Maui Chamber of Commerce, president of the Maui Business Council and executive director of the Miss Maui Scholarship Pageant.

Vencl will accompany Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa on the governor's 'Ohana Mission to Japan beginning Sunday.

California-style L&L in Hawai'i

Now that he has built a customer base in California, L&L Drive Inn owner Eddie Flores Jr. figures it's time to capture that market when Californians visit the Islands, too. On Thursday, Flores will open the first L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, as his chain is known on the Mainland, in Hawai'i.

Gov. Linda Lingle, who Flores supported in the past election, will attend the ribbon cutting at the new restaurant in the Ohana Surf Hotel in Waikiki.

Correction: L&L Drive-Inn will open an L&L Hawaiian Barbecue restaurant in Waikiki on Thursday. A previous version of this story had the wrong day.
