Quilts in spotlight

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Get ready for what's billed as "The Ultimate Quilting Experience" with this week's Quilt Hawai'i 2003 10th anniversary show at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

You can view the quilts, enter the competition or buy and learn from quilting experts.

The first session is from 7 to 9 tonight, with other sessions 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Entry fee is $3. The exhibition is in the Molokai Ballroom.

See www.quiltventures.com or call Kilauea Kreations at 967-8090 for information.

Gettysburg replays

Living on an island doesn't lend itself to many chances to see historical sites from the Civil War.

But come Sunday, history is coming to us with a Gettysburg Civil War "living history" re-enactment from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Koko Crater rifle range.

Re-enactors will be firing antique muskets and percussion revolvers. Experience hardtack and goober peas. Learn about Hawaiian, asian and hapa Civil War soldiers. Bring earplugs and sun glasses or normal eyeglasses. It's free, brought to you by the Hawai'i Historic Arms Association.

Red, white and boom!

You can get a jump on Friday's Independence Day celebrations and enjoy the Aloha Tower Marketplace fireworks show from aboard the Ali'i Kai catamaran on its dinner/fireworks cruise Thursday. Kama'aina and military pay $15 (with ID) for the adults-only evening cruise with live entertainment, cash bar and pupus, and the chance to win a Roberts Overnighters Neighbor Island trip for two. Cruise leaves Pier 5 at 8.30 p.m. and returns at 10.30 p.m. after the fireworks. Reservations: 539-9400.
