English invited to T-Wolves' minicamp

Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS — Former University of Hawai'i standout Carl English, who was not selected in last week's NBA Draft, has been invited to the Minnesota Timberwolves' minicamp this weekend.

English, a 6-foot-5 guard, is one of 13 players who will attend the minicamp. Following the workouts, the Timberwolves will field a team that will participate in the Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando, July 8-12.

Teams can invite free agents to play in a summer league without signing them to contracts.

English, who led the Rainbows in scoring last season with a 19.6 average, left UH despite having a year of college eligibility remaining.

Minnesota's summer roster also includes its two draft picks — Ndudi Ebi and Rick Rickert — and two other undrafted free agents, Kirk Penney of Wisconsin and Kasib Powell of Texas Tech.

Other players who've already been playing professionally for at least a year include guard Igor Rakocevic, former University of Minnesota forward Quincy Lewis, ex- Syracuse forward John Wallace, ex-Seton Hall guard Darius Lane, ex-Penn State guard Joe Crispin, ex-Arizona guard Michael Wright, ex-Oklahoma State guard Doug Gottlieb and ex-Old Dominion forward Cal Bowdler.
