The show goes on in Waikiki

Saturday's Family Day in Waikiki has had its share of controversy, but this much we do know: Parade or no parade, the kiddie festival in Kapi'olani Park and "Sunset on the Beach" will go on. As of TGIF press deadlines, the courts were deciding on whether to force the inclusion of three gay-rights organizations in the parade sponsored by the Hawai'i Christian Coalition; if the ruling is in favor of the groups, the coalition has said it would cancel the parade. Readers: Check the news sections of The Advertiser and our online edition for updates.

If there is indeed a parade, it begins at 10 a.m. at Fort DeRussy and ends at Kapi'olani Park and features floats, the new zoo train, local and Mainland bands, clowns and Uncle Sam.

The Fun in the Park Festival, at the bandstand area, also is sponsored in part by the Hawai'i Christian Coalition. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a Keiki Village, children's games, rides and inflatables. Entertainment will come in the form of a SongFest at the Kodak Hula Stage and local performers at the bandstand, including Jake Shimabukuro, Jordan Segundo and Brother Noland.

At 4 p.m., head across the street to Queen's Surf Beach for "Sunset on the Beach," sponsored by Aston Resorts and Hotels and the Waikiki Improvement Association. Pre-movie entertainment includes the keiki of Halau Hula Olana, the 111th Hawaii Army National Guard Band and fireworks. At 8 p.m., the Disney animated hit "Lilo & Stitch," above, will be shown on the 30-foot screen to round out the night.

It's all free. 923-1094, 523-2489.
