First Friday means lots of great art

First Friday, Honolulu's Downtown Gallery Walk, takes place from 5 to 9 tonight.

Downtown galleries and studios are opening their doors for an evening celebrating artists, art and art-making of all kinds. Each participating venue will offer a free map of the locations.

Among the participants:

  • The ARTS at Marks Garage, featuring raku demonstrations by Hawai'i Craftsmen's artists, a raku video fest and holiday picnic fare.
  • Atelier 4 Fine Art Gallery, featuring sparklers, a slide show, watermelons and fried chicken, with art by Scottie Flamm and Mark Brown.
  • Café Che Pasta, featuring portraits of Hawai'i flowers by Elea Dumas.
  • The Contemporary Museum at First Hawaiian Center, featuring musician Thomas Chun from 6 to 8 p.m., art by Marc Katano and Louis Pohl and a special $2 parking fee.
  • Got Art? is a new venue, hosting a grand opening celebration with gifts and fine art by Debbie Mitchell.
  • Hank's Café Honolulu, featuring art by Hank himself.
  • Na Mea Hawai'i, featuring live painting and island-made gifts.
  • Pacific Traditions Gallery, Pacific Justice & Reconciliation Center, featuring works by Duane Preble and Meliana Meyer.
  • The Pegge Hopper Gallery, showing of Roy Venters' lights.
  • Ramsay Gallery Museum, showing Ramsay's original drawings and prints.
  • Sharky's Tattoo, showing flash and tattoo-related art.
  • Smith Street Galleries, featuring David Belke, Kaning Fang and James Kuroda.
  • Studio1 Art Gallery, with an opening reception for a new group show of abstractions regarding human expression.
  • Studio of Roy Venters, with funky curios and fine art.
