Guam returning Hawai'i suspect

A Hawai'i fugitive arrested on Guam last month has waived his right to an extradition hearing and will be returned to Honolulu.

Jovie Adora, 27, waived the right today before Guam Superior Court Presiding Judge Alberto Lamorena.

Attorney General Douglas Moylan said agents from the Hawai'i sheriff's office will fly to Guam to escort Adora back to Honolulu, but he said he did not know when that would happen.

For the second time, Adora requested that he not be extradited immediately.

During a June 23 hearing, Adora agreed to extradition, but not until after July 6. At today's hearing, he requested that the move be put off until July 22.

Adora was arrested June 6 on Guam, two days after he skipped out on a court hearing in Honolulu in which he was to be sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape.

Fire damages Nanakuli home

No one was seriously hurt today in a fire that damaged a bedroom and hallway of a home at 87-815 Hakimo Road, Nanakuli. One of five adults who were at home was treated for smoke inhalation, said fire department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada. Firefighters responding to a 4:08 a.m. alarm reported the fire under control at 4:28 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimate was available, Tejada said.

A 9-year-old boy, meanwhile, was treated at the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center yesterday for burns suffered in a 7:12 p.m. house fire at 87-659 Manu'u St., Ma'ili. The boy and an 11-year-old girl, who escaped injury, were the only ones in the home when the fire started.

A neighbor used a garden hose to help contain the fire, Tejada said. Damage was estimated at $28,000 to the building and $2,000 to its contents.

Charge filed in attack with bat

Authorities on Friday charged 19-year-old Maoto Tuitea of a Pupunohe Street address in Waipahu with assault in connection with a baseball-bat attack Thursday on a 33-year-old man on Pupupane Street. Tuitea was being held on $100,000 bail.

Four men who fled the scene in a van were still at large, police said.

Wahiawa man held in shooting

A 28-year-old Wahiawa man was charged yesterday with shooting a man, 32, on Friday. Pulumata'ala Eli was charged Saturday with assault and a firearm offense. Eli was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Three others Soli Lieu Saunoa, 28; Monika Tauasosi, 20, and Sharlene Sheck, 20 were charged yesterday with trespassing, and bail for each was set at $2,000.

The four allegedly forced their way into the victim's home on Friday, looking for an acquaintance.

Later, the victim was shot at Oha'i Street and Oha'i Place during a confrontation with Eli, police said.
