Fugitive waives return hearing

A Hawai'i fugitive arrested on Guam last month has waived his right to an extradition hearing and will be returned to Honolulu.

Jovie Adora, 27, waived the right yesterday before Guam Superior Court Presiding Judge Alberto Lamorena.

Guam Attorney General Douglas Moylan said agents from the Hawai'i sheriff's office will fly to Guam to escort Adora back to Honolulu, but he said he did not know when that would happen.

During a June 23 hearing, Adora agreed to extradition but not until after July 6. At today's hearing, he requested that the move be put off until July 22.

Adora was arrested June 6 on Guam, two days after he skipped out on a court hearing in Honolulu in which he was to be sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape.

Tour-bus driver still critical

The driver of a tour bus that crashed Saturday night on Likelike Highway was in critical condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center. Police said the 65-year-old man may have suffered from a "medical condition" that caused him to slump over the steering wheel, but did not elaborate.

None of the passengers on the bus were seriously injured, police said. A total of 24 people were taken to two hospitals — 18 to Straub Clinic & Hospital and six to Kuakini Medical Center — where they were treated and released, police said.
