Businesses get extra tax time

The state Department of Taxation will waive penalty and interest charges for businesses that file semiannual returns because of problems printing tax-return booklets.

Affected taxpayers should receive their booklets before the July 31 deadline and file by Aug. 21. The forms also are available at www.state.hi.us/tax.



Longs buyouts not for Hawai'i

Longs Drug Stores Corp. said yesterday that a voluntary separation program for managers of its retail stores would not apply to its 31 Hawai'i stores.

The chain said it was offering financial incentives for store managers on the Mainland to leave the company as it seeks to cut costs.
