The 80 passengers on the express bus from Wai‘anae were evacuated this morning after the 60-foot articulated bus caught fire along the H-1 viaduct. No one was injured. The fire forced closure of all but one of the town-bound lanes of the freeway for about 30 minutes. The bus is six months old.

Charges coming in fatal shooting

Police expect to charge a 53-year-old man today in a fatal shooting Tuesday in Kahuku.

In addition to second-degree murder or manslaughter, the man is facing drug charges connected to the seizure of more than 500 marijuana plants found at the scene of the shooting, which occurred on farmland that is leased. The victim, a 54-year-old man, died Tuesday at 2:10 p.m. while in surgery at The Queen's Medical Center, police said.

The medical examiner's office has not released his identity but said the man died of internal injuries caused by a gunshot to the torso.

The suspect, who said the shooting was accidental, brought the wounded man to Kahuku Hospital at 9:30 a.m. and also surrendered a pistol to police, investigators said.

Stabbing victim still in hospital

A 38-year-old woman stabbed Tuesday night in Iwilei was in critical but stable condition today at The Queen's Medical Center, police said. The woman was stabbed repeatedly in the upper torso while seated in the driver's seat of a parked car on Ka'a'ahi Street at about 10:15 p.m.

Police today planned to charge a homeless woman, 37, with attempted murder. A witness saw the suspect lean in from the passenger side of the vehicle and allegedly attack the victim, police said.

Man, 24, faces robbery charge

Police yesterday charged 24-year-old Elvis Presley Suka for allegedly stealing money from his former girlfriend on June 13. Suka is charged with second-degree robbery and bail is $25,000.

He was arrested Tuesday in Chinatown in connection with an attempted-murder investigation unrelated to the robbery. Suka, who has no permanent local address, is named in a police affidavit filed in District Court as one of four men who allegedly beat a 52-year-old man outside a Kapalama bar on Kokea Street on April 21.

Drugs found in Kalihi raid

Police seized a quarter ounce of crystal methamphetamine in a raid last night at 1949 Stanley St.

A man, 23, and woman, 21, who reside at the address, were booked, accused of second- and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. The crystal meth seized in the 10:20 p.m. raid has a street value of $400, police said.

Last night was the third time the house has been raided in three years, according to police.

5 accused of prostitution

Five women were charged last night with prostitution for allegedly charging a fee for sexual contact related to lap dancing at two nightclubs at 825 Ke'eaumoku St.

Erin Del Rosario, 23, and Veronica Isabel Swope, 27, were released on $1,000 bail each, while Alicia Lee Cotter, 21, Bonnie Ann Panneton, 24, and Katrina Price, 21, each posted $500 bail. The five women will be arraigned in District Court on Tuesday.
