Tonight's Must-See

"Friends" (NBC) or "Picture Perfect" (1997, ABC), both 7 p.m. This is the fate of "Friends" stars: The scripts for their TV sitcom are slick, smart and sometimes hilarious. Their movies, on the other hand, are pleasant at best. "Picture Perfect" is pleasant enough. Jennifer Aniston wants to impress her boss, so she brings a picture of a guy (Jay Mohr) she barely knows, claiming he's her fiance. Soon she has to hire him to play the part. It's a fairly enjoyable film, but cannot compare with the big laughs Aniston gets weekly on "Friends." Tonight's episode has her visiting work to show off her new baby. When she spots an ambitious guy in her job, she has doubts about continuing maternity leave. Meanwhile, Phoebe becomes an extra on Joey's show.

Of Note

"The Thomas Crown Affair" (1999), 2 p.m., TBS. This remake is slick and smart, with Pierce Brosnan and Reno Russo perfect as a stylish thief and his pursuer.

"E.T. The Extraterrestrial" (2002 re-editing of 1982 film), 6 p.m., USA Network. Here's a fresh chance to see the director's cut of one of the greatest movies ever.

"Dale Earnhardt Tribute Concert," 7 p.m., Fox. This recent Daytona International Speedway concert honors the late NASCAR star. Performers include country musicians (Kenny Chesney, Brooks and Dunn, Alabama) and rockers (Sheryl Crow, Hootie and the Blowfish, and the Goo Goo Dolls).

"Shane" (1953), 5 and 9:50 p.m., AMC. It's VCR time, with several great films tonight. This one is a cowboy classic starring Alan Ladd.

"That Thing You Do" (1996), 8 p.m., Family Channel. Tom Hanks directed and took a small role in this film, a delightful portrait of a young rock group in the 1960s.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. In this rerun, Sara investigates the traffic accident that killed her boyfriend.
