Ala Wai parking meters vandalized

Coin thieves left about 70 parking meters at Ala Wai Yacht Harbor inoperable, said Peter Young, director of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The state has lost an estimated $6,300 in revenue and expects to spend about $2,500 to repair the meters, including welding security cages onto them. The thefts occurred during the past six to eight weeks, Young said.
