A 17-year-old boy accused of shooting a Punchbowl man during a June 26 burglary will be charged today with three counts of first-degree sex assault and first-degree robbery related to an early-morning Kanunu Street break-in June 23, police said.

Miti "Junior" Maugaotega Jr., who is being held at the Alder Street juvenile detention facility, will be charged as a minor for the alleged Kanunu Street offenses.

An Aug. 27, Family Court hearing is scheduled to have Maugaotega charged as an adult with attempted murder, burglary, firearms and drug-related offenses in connection with the shooting of Eric Kawamoto in the Punchbowl case. Prosecutors will likely also seek to have him charged as an adult in the Kanunu case.

A 57-year-old woman was allegedly attacked, robbed and pistol-whipped in the Kanunu break-in.

Police are also investigating a home-invasion robbery June 16 on Waikahalulu Lane in which Maugaotega may be a suspect.
