Dust off the box and bust out your 'ukulele. Tomorrow and Sunday, the Hawaii Music Institute will bring together such names as Kelly Boy DeLima, Byron Yasui and Ron Loo for 'Ukulele 2003, a two-day workshop featuring 'ukulele masters, craftsmen and musicians. The event is open to all ages and will teach everything from strumming and picking techniques to improvisation. If you don't have an instrument, you can make one alongside Casey Kamaka or David Gomes, who will be among the 'ukulele makers present.

Harris Interactive has tabulated the percentages of 1,000 boys and girls, ages 8 to 18, who say they are doing these things at least a few times a week this summer. (Boys are listed first.)
  • Swim: 54 percent, 65 percent.
  • Go biking: 55 percent, 47 percent.
  • Play basketball: 40 percent, 30 percent.
  • Inline skating: 24 percent, 26 percent.
  • Play soccer: 19 percent, 17 percent.
  • Hike: 16 percent, 12 percent.
